25% of pet owners buy their pets birthday gifts

Chinchilla owners are the most likely to buy them a birthday present.

30% of horse owners would buy them a Valentine's gift

Although many intend to woo their loved one with expensive gifts, the survey reveals it's the simple things in life that mean the most. A simple bouquet of flowers been crowned the most wanted gift by a third of the nation (29 percent), a home cooked meal came second with a fifth (21 percent) of the votes and a special sentimental card came in fourth with 20 percent of the votes.

Men are more likely to buy Valentine's presents for their pets.

Women are more likely to buy anniversary presents for their pets.

In the last five years spending on pet gifts has grown by £286,000,000
