This acts like an early warning system to help keep you protected. You'll be alerted by email within seven days if someone applies for credit using your name, or if key changes are made to your Equifax credit file with or without your consent.

Capital One, MasterCard or VISA will never send you an email asking for confidential information like your card number, PIN or security details. If you receive anything asking for these details, please don't respond, even if the email claims your account will otherwise be closed.
