Legal
Commercial acumen is a prerequisite - if you have it, you're our kind of lawyer. Being an in-house lawyer also gives you the
opportunity to work directly with your clients who are, of course, our associates.
Our style is to work collaboratively, always within the context of understanding commercial risks and opportunities and how
they apply to our business. Legal associates are involved in a huge variety of projects, from new product development to checking
advertising campaigns to signing off telephone scripts for the call centre. The legal department also works closely with the
human resources department, advising on employment law and ensuring all contracts are appropriate and future-proof.
As with all of our departments, there is an open, collegiate atmosphere that strikes a good balance between professionalism
and informality. We also have a healthy attitude towards work/life balance. It's a great environment to work in if you like
to challenge the accepted way of doing things and come up with new solutions.
ERM & Compliance
The Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and Compliance teams are a small yet fundamentally important part of our UK business.
Risk impinges on pretty much everything we do here, so ERM is a fascinating place to be within our organisation.
We have a very diverse brief as we assess both strategic and operational risk, carefully weighing up the trade-off between
risk and the potential reward. Recently we embarked on a year-long project to define the 'risk appetite' within the business,
which will clarify how much risk we are prepared to expose ourselves to in key areas.
Our ERM and Compliance teams work closely together and there is a growing overlap between the two. For instance, our Compliance
team might monitor sample calls from our call centre in order to look at our processes and whether anything needs changing.
Feeding back information of this kind helps enhance our understanding of risk issues.
Working for us, we'd expect you to develop a broad view of the overall business and be able to communicate with, and influence,
associates at every level across all of our departments. You would work closely with the legal, credit risk, corporate affairs
and regulatory relations teams, sharing your expertise and making sure we are vigilant on issues such as money laundering.
