Capital One develops its software ranks

26th July 2016

Eight senior software engineers have made the move to information based lending company Capital One, in as many weeks, to accelerate digital change at the company.

Capital One is looking to bring the brightest talent on board in 200 new tech positions to meet its goal of becoming a digital leader in the financial industry.

Rob Harding, chief information officer at Capital One UK, said: "We want to be at the forefront of change within the financial sector, and by building our own software and hiring the best talent we believe we can deliver our core objective of helping customers succeed.

"Already, with the hiring of Andy Reeves, from Amazon, as vice president of technology and Aline Baeck from eBay as our new head of design, recruits are recognising that this is an exciting time to join the business as we undertake our digital transformation. I am hugely excited about the prospect of working with our new software engineers who I'm sure will complement the existing talent we already have."

Neil Turner has been appointed senior director in software engineering following roles at Amazon where he led the video web teams serving content across the US, Europe and Asia. He will take responsibility for the service, web and developer tools teams.

Joining Neil are directors Jason Birth, who will lead the transition to a micro services architecture and Wayne Freeman, who will oversee web teams moving forward. Jason previously led the commerce platform engineering teams at Amazon UK, responsible for the Video On Demand transactions and subscriptions services and Wayne previously worked as a software development manager at Amazon Video.

Chris Miller, Jim Hartill and Jodie O'Rourke take up roles as senior managers. Chris will lead the web accounts servicing teams, Jim is responsible for quality engineers and Jodie will be responsible for the mobile engineering teams in London.

Finally, Dave Warren and Ben Gould have been appointed managers in software engineering. Dave will work on third party API and partners whilst Ben will lead the DevTools teams.

All eight additions will be based at Capital One's London office at Regents Place, spending part of the week at the company's headquarters in Nottingham. In February 2017 the new hires will move to Capital One's new offices at the White Collar Factory EC1, overlooking Silicon Roundabout, where the company has just signed an 11 year lease for two floors.
