THE UK's top new accountant says she is "honoured" to be recognised at a prestigious national awards ceremony.
Credit card company Capital One scooped two gongs at the Business Finance Awards* held at the Royal Garden Hotel in London recently.
Claire Sowden, 27, from Chesterfield has been named New Accountant of the Year**, awarded for her potential leadership, innovation and use of initiative and technical skill, whilst her department was crowned Finance Team of the Year for a blue chip company.
Claire, a keen amateur dancer, said: "I was over the moon to have been selected as a finalist so to have won really is the icing on the cake. It feels like such an achievement and something I am honoured to have been put forward for."
Capital One UK's finance department, based at the company's Nottingham headquarters, was commended for its approach to agile working practices, use of digital tools, cost saving efforts and teamwork.
Neil Herbert, chief financial officer, said: "We're thrilled to be recognised for the great work we are doing in the industry. The team do a great job of supporting each other every day and it's really special to have independent recognition of the fantastic work they do individually and collectively and their desire to continually improve. I'm immensely proud to be part of such a talented team."
