Capital One Donates 300 Internet Enabled Tablets To School Children

January, 2021: Capital One is donating 300 tablets to school children across Nottingham and London to help close the digital divide, which is preventing many students from effective home schooling.

The new tablets are also pre-loaded with internet connections to allow pupils access to online content as home learning continues across the country. The gadgets will ensure hundreds more children can log on to learning opportunities via their schools, ensuring they do not miss out on valuable educational opportunities and fall behind their classmates.

The learning devices will directly benefit some of the most in need children living near Capital One's Nottingham HQ and London offices. Many children do not have digital access at home for remote study and it is important even when schools have resumed that pupils can access online resources.

Capital One has distributed the tablets to five Greenwood Academies Trust locations including Nottingham Academy Greenwood Road, Wells Academy, Nottingham Girls' Academy, Nottingham Primary Academy and Nethergate Academy. Several kits have also been donated to Bulwell Academy and ThinkForward, a youth employability charity active in many Nottingham schools. Highbury Fields Girls School, which is located close to Capital One's London offices, will also receive an allocation.

Lucy Hagues, Chief Executive Officer, Capital One UK, commented: "When lockdown first started last March, we spoke to our school and community partners to ask them how we could help. Access to tech and data was their number one priority then and it still is now, so we are delighted to be able to help our school partners again during this lockdown with 300 more devices on top of the 500 from last year.

We want young people in our local communities to have the best possible opportunities to succeed in their education during these difficult times."

Sadly, nearly a year into the pandemic, there are still many children without access to the equipment they need to access online learning. These devices will be very well received and support pupils who would otherwise fall behind their classmates simply because they do not have access to the same digital resources. A huge thank you on behalf of our pupils for this generous donation."
